Filo-wrapped Mars Bar
I'm not sure I should I should be owning up to this one publicly but as it was incredibly delicious I thought I'd share.
Created in a sort of homage to the infamous Scottish deep-fried Mars Bars the below is a filo-wrapped Mars bar which I then baked.
To do it you need four layers of filo, some honey, some cinnamon and melted butter (optional are vanilla dusting sugar and a coupla sesame seeds).
First lay down one layer of filo and brush it with melted butter. Layer another sheet of filo and drizzle honey lightly and then dust with cinnamon. Layer another sheet and brush with butter before laying the final sheet on top. Place the Mars bar at one end of the sheet and roll the filo into a parcel. Brush the entire outside of the parcel with butter trimming the ends. Sprinkle sesame seeds on the outside of the parcel. as desired. Whilst drooling with anticipation, bake on 200 until golden and crispy.
Dust with vanilla dusting sugar and as touch of cinnamon.
Devour voraciously.

I'm so trying this!! thanks : )

this looks amazing. i sooooo want to try it!
did the chocolate ooze out all gooey, or did it stay pretty solid?

Hi Anna,
On 200, it goes completely gooey but still sorta stays in it's layers if that makes sense. This was exactly what I was hopping for but I was really surprised how remarkably well it worked - first try.

i've just convinced my boyf to give it a go with me. when he finishes playing x-box he's off to 7-11 to buy the mars bars. then we'll spend the afternoon indulging and watching sci-fi shows. so excited!!!
p.s. i'm not kidding about the sci-fi :)

Completely different consistency to what I was imagining...mine came out very sticky / toffee / caramel like...maybe I added too much honey? I was thinking it'd be more melted chocolate gooey inside...all good though! Might revisit this one and try it again..

Oh ours was definitely more "melted chocolate gooey inside."
Perhaps the honey was the difference, we only just used a drizzle of honey -enough to stick the filo sheets together
Anyhow, I've really happy to hear that you gave it a go.

Caught up on my blogs last night and found this, and then today Mars Bars were reduced to $1 at the supermarket. Coincidence? I think not!
Yum, yum, yum. I think I'll trim the ends of the pastry a bit more next time, but this one's a keeper. The chocolate went squishy and melty and the hint of cinnamon and honey blended with it perfectly.

We tried something similar (but simpler) with pre-rolled frozen puff pastry a few years ago. Ours came out gooey but still layered, like you say -- very rich and sweet!
