We've name dropped the Malaya several times but have never really given it the attention it deserves. A recently satisfied craving set us straight.
We think they have the best salt and pepper squid in town (no small claim) as well as mouth-watering beef rendang and superb prawn curry (from their original 1963 recipe).
Best salt and pepper squid - gosh! That *is* a big claim. Who else is high on your list?

Sea Treasure would be very very close to top, as would Yings but on this side of the bridge we definately stand behind the Malaya. Anyone else have favs to share?

My fave would be Golden Century @ fox. Their salt and prawns are also awesome

I'm always overcome with nostalgic longing for the Malay on George whenever I think about it's newer incarnation. It's in a nicer location now but it seems to have got a touch of the "fusion" about it.
I've recently experienced a number of my favorite spots closing or repositioning themselves in the market so please excuse me if I sound like I'm living in the past. I'll get over it :)
