Wow Wasavie
Wasavie is not as incredible as we've been told. It's not great value and the food isn't simple and stunning.
We weren't impressed in the least by tender, sweet beef tataki or spicy tuna and green bean salad (left) which were our entrees. A main of snapper and mussels which arrived "en pappiote" had a fragrant broth that barely turned our heads and the pork belly was far, far, too tender in it's sweet sauce and tease of fresh wasabi to exceed our lofty expectations. Also, we weren't at all impressed by or envious of our neighbors' sashimi plate. I am not salivating now as I write this. I can stop thinking about the mudcake I had for dessert. We will not be going back here time and time again.
This restaurant isn't that good and you'd only wind up having to wait for a seat at this communal table (they don't take bookings.) So just stay away (and you'll never see us there)
Rating: 15/20
Wasavie - address (we can't remember), phone number (not listed)
Hmm, such a lacklustre review but you still give it 15/20? What aspect of wasavie did you like most, in order for it get this relatively high score?
BTW thanks for running a highly entertaining blog :) I found out about the RISE special last month from you guys, and had a great dinner there. Thanks!

Sorry Paul, was trying to be funny not misleading in my use of superlative-rich negativity.
Just to be clear - Wasavie is really quite remarkable and everything about the experience there was great - except that it is bloody hard to get in (so it doesn't need more eager diners). We will be going back but only because it's worth waiting an hour (at the Royal) to eat there. (also 5 Ways Cellars is right next door and it's BYO)
I'm glad you liked Rise and even more glad that you like the blog.
